First Anniversary

Do you know what day it was yesterday? Yes I hear you say it was Sunday 27th January 2013, what is so special about that?  I will tell you; it is my blog - The Five Cats Chronicles' first anniversary, yes it all started here one year ago yesterday.

Celebrating our 1st Anniversary - We cats can't taste anything sweet so only a little piece of cake for us.

Anniversary Plate by Jon Luty

What a year it has been; we have had sadness: Scratchy passing away, Gingy losing an eye, but we have had many joys too, joining Twitter and Facebook and becoming a member of the #WLF on Twitter, and making some very good friends there, some of my highlights of the year.  The joys of our missing kitties returning (more on that one later) and many celebrations. I would like to thank to all of you dear readers for reading my blog, I had my doubters, Sooty said I would be lucky to get more than two people reading my blog. Ha Ha Sooty how wrong you were, I have had many readers of The Five Cats Chronicles from all over the world.  I personally would like to thank each and every one of you, and you know who you are.

And here are some lovely roses just for you:

Now more about missing kitties, I am ashamed to admit it that I too was a missing kitty last week.  No one saw me from Saturday evening and I still had made no appearance by Thursday morning.  My humans by now were very concerned about my whereabouts, they had a search for me and shouted for me but I did not appear.  Mum decided action needed to be taken and took to the streets on her bicycle.  This act brought tears to my eyes, tears of laughter that is, and tears to her eyes most probably too as she had not been on her bicycle for a long time.  Whilst on this bicycle search she came across a man whose house is on the other side of a field near our house, she asked had he seen a cat fitting my description.  He had indeed and told her that I had been seen in a house not too far away from where he lived.  The lady of the house had been feeding me, so I decided I didn't need to come home.  After learning of this nugget of information she set off again on her bike and shouted my name on the way home.

When Mum arrived home I decided to make an appearance, and was she pleased to see me, such a fuss she made.   It wasn't as if I had run away, indeed no I was saving her the bother of feeding me. She has now threatened to ground me if I do not come home at least once a day.  Sooty quite frankly was not pleased to see me, as a told you in my previous post, he and I are not on good terms at the moment.  Gingy and Blackie were quite indifferent, as they usually are anyway.

I would like to send this message to my human mum, "See the sign below." use it please.

Please can I have a drum roll......... thank you, I would like to announce that yet again I have received another blog award, The REALITY award.  Thanks to Nerissa once again, thank you so much Nissy (the check is in the post) only joking!!!

In accepting this award I have to thank the blogger who gave it to me (see above) and leave a link to their blog : Nerissa's Life do go a have a look at Nerissa's blog it is brilliant.  I also have to answer five questions:

1. If you could change one thing, what would you change?

I would like make tougher sentencing for those committing acts of animal cruelty.

2. If you could repeat an age, what would that be?

I would love to be 5 months old again, that was when my humans decided they wanted to keep us, and of course my brofur Scratchy was still alive and not grumpy.

3.  What is the one thing that really scares you?

This one is easy, loud noises really scare me, if you have seen my YouTube video Scaredy Cat you will see :

4. What is the one dream you have not completed and do you think you will be able to complete it.

I would love to write a best selling book, I think I could complete it, but that would be up to the humans; if they wanted to buy my book.

5.  If you could be someone else for the day, who would you be?

I would love to be a queen maybe even Queen Elizabeth II, we cats think we are very regal anyway.  Yes I would love to spend a day in grandeur, I have servants at home (the humans) but this would be on a much bigger scale.

I now have to nominate up to 20 blogs for this award:

Kat Gagliano - Bengal Cat Domination

Charlie Felis Catus - Cat Evolution (Charlie also has another blog, will find the link asap)

And I intend to nominate some more blogs in my next post, watch this space.....

New Year Same Old Me

Robert Burns (public domain image)

New Year, now what thoughts spring to mind when New Year is mentioned.  I know humans like to make a very big deal over New Year with big parties and singing Auld Lang Syne (Old Long Since) The song is courtesy of a poem written by Scottish poet Robert Burns in 1788, and set to traditional folk music called Roud No. 6254

Many a New Year's party or any party come to think of it ends with many drunken renditions of Auld Lang Syne; and how many of you don't get past the first verse? How many of you don't know anything other than the first verse? Yes, I imagine quite a lot of you, me included, so as I am a generous pussy cat (on occasions) If you see below I have provide the full English translation of Aulde Lang Syne for you so you can get some practice in for next New Year.

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?

Should old acquaintance be forgot,

and old lang syne ?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,

we'll take a cup of kindness yet,

for auld lang syne.
And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
and surely I’ll buy mine !

And we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet,

for auld lang syne.

We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine ;

But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,

since auld lang syne.

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine ;

But seas between us broad have roared

since auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !

And we’ll take a right good-will draught,

for auld lang syne.

Incidentally it is Burns Night on the 25th January (I expect most Scottish folk will know that anyway)

We are now into week three of the new year and how many of you have broken your New Year's Resolutions, come on hands up!!!  Hum quiet a few I bet, so why do humans do this to themselves every year they say to : "I am going to loose this weight" "I am going to get myself a better job" " I am going to give up drinking, smoking, gambling" etc etc etc. Some do succeed but how many fail.  We cats however do not have such high expectations for ourselves, we do not make New Year's Resolutions we prefer to admit our shortcomings (to ourselves) and do not think to make resolutions that are impossible to keep.  Cats generally are very arrogant in our assumption of perfection, anyway we do not need to change our ways, we are what we are; new year same old me.

A diamond collar is my idea of perfection too

Now news from the home front;  Sooty is taking advantage of the very spring like weather we have had of late.  He is out and about patrolling the nearby fields looking for mice.  In fact the other week he decided to bring one in the house the other morning.  Much to his disgust the humans removed it before he could play with it, they decided to give him a toy mouse to play with, and quite rightly so he ignored it.  I have also been taking advantage of the nice weather and have decided to make myself quite invisible for the last few days.  Sooty and I are also not on good terms at the moment he and I are quite at loggerheads and have to be separated to avoid fights, even Gingy is avoiding him at the moment.

Gingy and Sooty when they were friends

I have also another award to tell you about, very generously given to me by my friend Nerissa; he has a great blog you can find it here : Nerissa's Life
The award is Seven things about me, now in accepting this award I have to tell you seven things about myself.  This shouldn't be too hard; for those of you who know me well I have no trouble telling you things about me.
      1. I will eat just about anything, that's why my humans call me Piranha Patchy.
      2. I had another sister but she ran away when we were eight months old.
      3. I have been know to steal a cooked chicken leg.
      4. I much prefer the outdoors to indoors.
      5. I like to spend time alone.
      6. When I was little my humans didn't know if I was a girl or a boy, so they called me Patchy after my patchy fur.
      7. I love a good party.

So there you have it, seven things about me.  Until the next time bye (")

      Thank You Very Much

Hello again,  I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (just like the Christmas carol) I hope no one was put on Santa's naughty list, if you were perhaps your New Year's resolution is to be less naughty.

I had a very nice quiet Christmas, I received some lovely Christmas Cards from my Twitter and Facebook pals and a lovely present also; a toy mousie. And there was also a Christmas stocking for we cats.  We had plenty of delicious turkey, yum yum.  Unfortunately some of the shops here in Cyprus have decided now it's the new year no more turkey in the shops.  Yes you did hear right NO MORE TURKEY,  why I do not understand.  My human mum used to buy turkey breast from a local supermarket, before someone in their infinate wisdom decided turkey was only for Christmas.  Turkey is not just for Christmas shop owners of Cyprus it is for life!!!! Yes, we cats and humans would like to buy Turkey all year round not just at Christmas.
      Roast turkey with stuffing
Ok rant over and back to business.  All the anipals who attended the #WLF 24 hour Christmas Pawty on the 15th/16th December had a wonderful time and enjoyed themselves and our #wlf statesman Mr Tibbs looked very dashing in his Nutcracker costume (see pic below)   I am also very very please to announced that we also raised $2068 dollars for our four cat Charities, so this is my first Thank You Very Much; to the anipals and humans of Twitter who very generously donated their time, prizes and money to make the event a enormous success.  I would also like to say Thank You Very Much to the Barktenders, DJs, Quiz masters and helpers, also to FruFrub and Stefi who provided the noms (food to humans), and my very good pal Duchess of Bramley who co-organised the event with me.

      Mr Tibbs as the Nutcracker

I would also like to say Thank You Very Much my other very good pals Jasper and Felix. Thank you for all you kind words and the lovely things you have said about me on your blog.

      Jasper and Felix

Also Thank You Very Much to my pal  Nerissa he has a wonderful blog Nerissa's thanks for being a frequent visitor to my blog, and giving me another 2 awards Seven Things about me and the Blog of The Year 2012.  I am so pleased he thought my blog worthy of the Blog of the Year 2012.  I am going to save the Seven Things about me award for my next blog post and talk now about the Blog of The Year award.  The award is given by the Thought, you can take a look at their site here: and here it is the award.

So I will end by saying A BIG THANK YOU to all my friends and family human and feline. Hug, Purrs and kisses to you all.
